Prevention of crisis and coercion

Introduction

Persons with mental health problems may experience crisis and are at risk for experiencing coercive measures. Since the rates of crises and coercive measures seem to be on the rise in many countries, effective preventive models are urgently needed. This is in line with The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), which also aims at prevention, reduction and elimination of coercion. The theme of the conference therefore is ‘’prevention of crisis and coercion’’.

The second CCITP conference provides an opportunity to exchange new and effective ways to prevent crisis and coercion, and topics related to this. Some of the preventive interventions, methods or models have been well described and researched, while others may be promising but not yet studied. These can all be presented during the conference. Moreover, there are large epidemiological variations in crises and coercive measures between countries and the reasons for this phenomenon remain to be discovered. During the conference, differences between countries will be presented and discussed. This provides us with the opportunity to learn how these differences in services, mental health laws and cultural factors may impact crises and the use of coercion. In addition, new methodologies will be presented which have been developed for prevention of crisis and coercion, including outreach, the use of electronic devices, big data methodology and digital psychiatry. Therefore, we cordially invite clients, caregivers, professionals (psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, social workers and others), managers, policy makers and researchers to come the conference and submit abstracts.
